AN AWAKENING CALL: LESSONS FROM ETHIOPIAN AIRLINE CRASH

    The pillars of the earth shook on Sunday as our television was flooded with a sad breaking news; Phones beeping from updates and some families wailing, others dialling their loved ones (maybe for the first time this month) to enquire about their safety, a whooping number of 157 souls vanished at an instance from a tragic crash.
 An Ethiopian airline plane en-route from Addis Ababa to Nairobi, Kenya crashed six minutes after takeoff on Sunday, killing all passengers on board, hmm such a heartbreaking tragedy.
  But looking beyond the cries, lamentation and maybe thanksgiving for some who were lucky to have rebooked or missed this flight, there is always a lesson to learn from this crash. It’s no new thing that individuals exit the earth daily and hourly basis, maybe even every minute, your question might be, then why write on this? Why because it got the attention of majority of people, so why not use the medium, to reach out to us while our emotions is engaged fully right, but I bet you can echo it to be true.
   As much as it was a sad event, we can’t turn a blind eye to the fact that different calibre of individuals, all boarded the ill fatal plane ranging from the wealthy, to the middle class citizens, to the just comfortable persons, to those who have kissed their name on the map of some continents, to those who haven’t fully attained all they should have, and the category could go on and on, but whatever the case is, there would be no more chance to correct their wrongs nor dot T’s. While I engage you in reading, why don’t you examine yourself, from your spiritual life, to your physical and all other parts of you, can you comfortably hit your chest in the great beyond when you do depart knowing you have achieved all you were created for?
   Do you know your creator? Do you have a good standing with him? Is your life righteous and blameless? Or are you just living your life hoping to get an e-mail from God as to notify you, of when you would be coming to your final abode?  If you belong to such class awaiting a notification, it might not happen, it may just be your greatest wish without an actualization. It’s time to face reality and amend our ways if it’s faulty. Evaluate your spiritual standing with God, are you confident of it?
Your physical examination consist of your profile, talent usage, achievements, impacts and influence in your vicinity, your sphere of life not excluding the nations at large. What would you be remembered for? What dream are you holding on to? What dream are you fulfilling? What impact are you making in your sphere? Hmm I do hope it’s a positive one. How are you using your God’s given gifts and talent? Or wait is it still buried beneath the ground?
Nothing in this life is permanent; we are only but visitors here. So what legacy of yours would you kiss on the map of this earth? People without legacies are fast forgotten after a period of mourning not matter how long it is. We will always remember our fallen heroes and tyrants for their impacts and contributions to humanity. Now is the time to make amendments because everyday counts.
